Kingston Upon Hull Swimming Club enjoyed two hugely successful weekends at John Charles Centre for Sport for this year’s Yorkshire Winter Competition. A total of 76 young swimmers qualified for the championship, coming home with a stunning haul of 41 medals, 20 of them gold! There were some gutsy swims against very tough competition, many of them in personal best times. Both weekends were long and intense but the effort and commitment from swimmers never faltered, right until the very end.

A special mention must go to 11 year-old Oscar Focht who won an impressive 9 gold medals and 9 year-old Henry Callis who swam his first Yorkshire Championship, winning 6 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze medals. On the back of breaking the all-time Yorkshire boys record for 50m backstroke in the summer, Rio Daodu (15 years) won gold in 100m backstroke and silver in the 50m free. Oscar, Henry and Rio are amongst Britain’s top swimming talent, all three heading the national rankings in numerous events.

Other medalists were Zac Baughan-Withington (gold in 200m IM and 400m IM), Sofia Casap (bronze in 100m back), Lucas Christie (bronze in 50m back, 100m back and 100m free), Megan Chu (silver in 100m fly), Annabelle Clausen (bronze in 50m back and 100m back). Dylan Hill (gold in 100m back and silver in 50m back), Maxwell Mortimer (silver in 50m free, bronze in 50m back, 100m back and 100m fly), Libby Munday (gold in 100m back), Lea Sibova (silver in 100m free), Victoria Sibova (bronze in 50m fly) and Ben Towse (silver in 50m free and bronze in 100m back).
