Following the hugely successful county championships in February, Kingston Upon Hull Swimming Club showcased their hard work and talent at the North East Regional Championships in April and May, beating swimmers from some of the best clubs in the North East Region. A number of our younger swimmers had very packed schedules with multiple finals, but there was maximum effort from everyone right until the very end.

Rio Daodu (16 years) wowed in the backstroke and fly, winning GOLD and becoming North East Champion in 50m and 100m back and 100m fly. The first weekend saw a flurry of medals for KUHSC in the finals session. Zac Baughan-Withington had a thrilling 400m IM, which saw him close the gap between first and second, knocking off an impressive 5 seconds from his heat swim in the morning (5:16.11). This was followed by Lucas Christie racing to silver in the 100m backstroke in a personal best of 1:11.06. Oscar Focht then made it a hat-trick of silvers by finishing the 50m breaststroke in a personal best time of 39.85.

There were some very well-deserved personal bests amongst the older swimmers during the second weekend in the Open/Youth category. In addition to his golds, Rio Daodu bagged silver in the Junior 200m free and bronze in the Open 50m back, whilst Libby Munday added a silver to KUHSC’s medal haul in the Open 100m back. The third and final weekend saw Hull’s age-groupers continue the club’s successful streak. Zac Baughan-Withington took home another silver in the 200m IM. Sofia Casap swam personal best times in both the 200m backstroke (dropping two seconds to 2:40) and the 50m back, which saw her win silver. Lucas Christie was back on the podium will an impressive further two silver medals in the 200m back and 50m back and Oscar Focht, the youngest swimmer in the 200m breast final, secured a fabulous bronze medal.
