There was a huge entry from Kingston upon Hull swimming club at the recent two day event at Chesterfield licensed open meet. Is was going to be tough to get into the medal places with a strong field from the Derbyshire region. Not only did the Hull swimmers stand out, so did the parents. The parents won the award for best supported club by out shouting all the other clubs supporters.
Junior A Squad
11 year old Aleah Ross scooped a handful of medals and delivered a string of outstanding performances over the two day gala. In the 200m IM she swam 2:45.91 to take gold and backed this up with an equally impressive 2:47.04 for the 200m Backstroke, again taking 1st place and achieving her second NER qualifying time. Three silver medal finishes capped off a highly successful outing, the standout amongst these being the 400m Freestyle in which she swam a 5:17.59, gaining her a 16 second pb and the third NER time of the meet.
12 year old Jack Woodcock continued his rich vein of form to turn in some excellent swims and also walked away with five medals and pb's in all of his races. In the 100m freestyle he swam 1:04.39 to take gold and backed this up with silver medal finishes in the 200m and 100m freestyle; swimming the 100m in 29.79. Further silver came from his 400m freestyle in an equally impressive time of 4:58.12 and the weekend was capped off with a bronze from the 100m butterfly.
13 year old Hannah Willingham took gold in both breaststroke events. In the 200m an imperious swim saw her achieve a massive 10 second pb in a time of 2:56.04, an NER qualifying time. Once again in the 100m Hannah dominated the race and finished in a time of 1:22.58, another NER time. Silver medal finishes in the 200m freestyle and the 200m IM and 4th place finishes in all her remaining races rounded off an excellent weekend. 14 year old Sophie Holdsworth took a richly deserved gold in the 200m backstroke in a time of 2:36.62 and then went on to finish third in the 100m backstroke, both NER qualifying times. 12 year old Darcy Hambly swam well to take five bronze medals, the highlights being the 100m backstroke which she swam in 1:16.66 and the 400m freestyle in 5:04.22. 12 year old Melissa Machin swam to a silver medal in the 200m IM and bronze in the 50m freestyle, both in Yorkshire qualifying times. She also achieved the Yorkshire standard for 100m backstroke and 400m freestyle and a full house of pb's
Junior B Squad
10 year old Jolie Bull had a great weekend gaining 5 new PB's. Jolie took the bronze medals in 100m free and 100 back with new PB's. Jolie had a fantastic swim in the 400m free she knocked a huge 41 seconds off finishing in a time of 5.40.01 gaining her 11 year old Yorkshire time and taking the silver medal to cap of a great swim. Jolie's top finish came in the 200m free where her new PB scooped the gold medal.
11 year Old Jake Conlon had a great weekend swimming his way to PB's and 5 medals. Jake took the bronze medal in 200m I.M with a 4 second PB. Jake swam his way to silver medals in the 200m free and 200m breast. Jakes new PB in 100 back saw him claim the gold medal. Jake had 2 races back to back and still managed to come out on top taking the gold in 100m breast and knocking 3 seconds of his 400m free to gain his 12 year old Yorkshire time and another gold medal.
11 year old Ethan Kingdom swam his way to bronze in the 200m back, silver in 50 fly. Ethan took the gold medal in 50 free and took the top spot in his final race of 200m free claiming his second gold. Swimming in the 11 year old girls age group was Hollie Verity and Maddie Tait. Hollie gained 29 seconds of PB's ,knocking 3 seconds off in 200m free and 4 seconds in 100m fly to finish 4th . The PB's kept growing with 6 seconds off in the 200I.M. Hollie swam her way to 2 Yorkshire qualifying times in 100 m back with a 7 second PB and 9 seconds off in the 200 m back finishing in a time of 2.54.40. Maddie gained 4 new PB's knocking time off in 200m breast and 100m back and managing a 2 second PB in 200m free and 3 second PB in 100m free to finish in a time of 1.20.58.
In the 12 year age group Liam Spence managed to hit all his new times having good swims in the 100m breast where he came 4th and he knocked 3 seconds off in 100m back .Kennedy Akril , Emily Wilkinson and Emily Tate had some good swims .Kennedy gained 4 PB's knocking time off in the 100m fly and 100m breast . Kennedy knocked 4 seconds off in the 100m back and took 7 seconds off in 100m free finishing in a time of 1.15.11. Emily swam 3 PB's knocking time off in the 200m breast and 100m free and in the 400 m free she swam her way to a 16 second PB. Emily T gained 2 new PB and hit all her new times.
13 year Old Daniel Stone had a great gala after struggling with a bad knee for the last year he managed to take 4 gold medals. He took the top spot in the 100m back and 200m back with a new PB in the 50m back saw him take his 3rd gold medal and a hard earned 12 second PB in the 400m free saw him take the gold in a time of 4.48
Junior C Squad
The event opened with the Boys 400m Freestyle, where Nathan Porter aged 10 got off to a flying start to gain an impressive 40 second PB and Bronze medal. Alex Everson 10 swam his way to silver in a Yorkshire qualifying time, and Joshua Wormald 10, finished 5th with an excellent 25 second PB.
Cameron Offen 10 excelled in his individual events and gained silver and an 11 year old Yorkshire qualifying time in 50m Backstroke. Nathan Porter10 took bronze.
In the boys 10 years 100m backstroke, Alex Everson took silver and gained an 11 year old Yorkshire qualifying time. Cameron Offen took Bronze and Joshua Wormald finished 5th with an excellent 25 second PB. In the Boys 10 yrs 200m Breaststroke Nathan Porter and Cameron Offen achieved a 16 second PBs with exceptional performances.
In the Girls events, Megan Gray 9 years was outstanding and produced PBs in all her events and gained 10 year old Yorkshire qualifying times in 50m freestyle, 200m Breaststroke, 50m Backstroke, 200m freestyle, 400m freestyle and 200m IM.
Lily Tate 9yrs had a brilliant weekend gaining 9 PB'S, a Yorkshire qualifying time for 50m freestyle and she also swam her way to 3 Bronze medals in 50m Butterfly, 200m Breaststroke and 400m Freestyle. Libby Hannard 10 years walked away with PBs in all 8 of her events and Sophie Scott 11yrs gained a 5 second PB in 200m freestyle. 10 year old Ruby Willingham returning after a recent illness had an impressive series of performances, achieving a string of pb's and a Yorkshire Qualifying time for the 100m backstroke. Joshua Wormald 10 took bronze in the 200m Freestyle to end a Fantastic weekend for the squad.
Competing in the boys events for the Regional A squad and producing a gold medal in the 50 backstroke was 18 year old Aaron Arksey, Aaron was just outside the medals with his other swims.
Conner Downs secured a 3rd place in the 400 fc in the 15 and over age group. Brothers Karmand and Kaso Kareem both just missed out on medals with a string of 4th places.
Competing in the girl's events was 16y Sarah Barlow showing her hard work in training pays, Sarah produced 5 Pb's, likewise did 13y Cesena Wild producing a string of positive swims. Zoe Webster (15) produced two powerful swims in her speciality stroke breaststroke with two top 10 finishes 4th place in the 50 breast and a 5th in the 100m breaststroke. After competing the week before at the National Dse meet, 17y Natalie Moon showed she was still on form, taking all top spots in the disability class as well as taking 4th place in the 200m breast in the 15y and. Showing positive moves in the right direction was 12 year old Amy Greenacre competing in the 50m frontcrawl, 50m backstroke and reduced her pb's in the 200m free and 200m breast, as did 12 year old Leoni Bull lowering her pb in the 400m and 100m free.
