Club Gala 8 Report
Ennerdale Leisure Centre, Hull

The last club championship brought together all of Kingston upon Hull swimming clubs squads, with the swim age ranging from 6 years right up to 22 years of age.
In the Girls 25m tadpole Freestyle event, 7yrs and under, Eva May Lowery took the Gold , Kaci Hope Silver and the Bronze went to Annie Lyon. In the 8yrs and over newcomers, Morgan Gronow (Gold),Caitlin Playle (Silver) and Anya Betts (Bronze) took 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions.
In the Backstroke event, girls 7yrs and under Eva May took her 2nd gold of the day and a 5 sec pb, Annie Lyon took silver and bronze went to Kaci Hope. In the 8 yrs and over again the new swimmers stole the limelight with Caitlin Playle taking the Gold, Anya Betts took Silver and Abigail Patterson took the Bronze.
It was the boys turn, in the 7yrs and under, Cameron Gray narrowly beat Evan Offen to take the Gold with a 5 sec pb, Evan picked up Silver and a 3 sec pb Bronze went to Lewin Sharp who also gained a 3 sec pb. In the 8 yrs and over Gold went to Finlay Gowan, Silver went to Loyd Roustaby with an impressive 6 sec pb and Bronze went to William Brady also gaining a 6 sec pb.
To finish the day for the Tadpoles we saw the boys, in the 7yrs and under Evan Offen took 1st place and new pb, Silver went to Lewin Sharp with a 4 sec pb and Isaac Blain picked up the Bronze. Finally in the 8yrs and over, Loyd Roustaby took Gold, Finlay Gowan (Silver) and William Brady taking his 2nd Bronze of the day.
Junior D Squad
Junior D squad had a successful gala. 9 year old Ryan Porter took Gold in the 100m IM and also qualified for next year's Yorkshire Championships in the 50m free event, Ben Massam also 9 took Silver. The highlight for the girls was Lauren Barlow 11 who took Gold in the 100m IM with 10 year old Heather Barlow in second place and Libby Akrill who is only 8 years old taking 3rd place. There were also good swims for 8 year olds Ben Sawdon and Amy Kitching.
Junior C Squad
The Junior C squad also showed good improvement in the club gala where we had the girls 200m IM. Outstanding times and pb's were seen, Megan Gray 13 secs improvement, and Ruby Willingham 9 secs. In the Boys 200m IM, we again saw some outstanding times, Cameron Offen, gained an impressive 20 sec personal best.
The next event for the squad was the 100m Breaststroke, for a lot of our swimmers this was the first time of competing in this event, and they all put in a 100% effort and all gained good times. Great performances were seen by Megan Gray, who gained her 10yr old Yorkshire time and Ruby Willingham gained a 5 sec pb in this event. Joshua Wormald took the Bronze in the boys event in a time of 1:55.65.
Then came the 200m Backstroke, in the boys event Alex Everson gained a huge 23 sec PB, Joshua Wormald gained a 10 sec pb, Nathan Porter 6 sec pb and Cameron Offen gained his 2nd pb of the day knocking 5 secs off his previous time.
Junior A Squad
13 year old Bailey Hairsine and 11 year Aleah Ross walked away from the final club gala of the season with a full house of Gold medals between them - eight from eight.
Bailey posted a personal best time of 2:29.58 for the 200m IM and backed this up with winning performances in the 100m Breaststroke, 200m Backstroke and 50m Freestyle. Aleah took gold in her 200m IM with a 2 second pb in a time of 2:52.50 and then similarly went on to win all of her remaining races, obtaining Yorkshire qualifying times to boot.
13 year old Hannah Willingham's highlight was an impressive swim to take Gold in the 100m Breaststroke and she backed this up with Silvers in the 200m IM and 50m freestyle. 14 year old Elliot Stephenson swam to Gold in the 200m backstroke, gaining a 6 second pb in the process. He then took third in the 200m IM and achieved the milestone of breaking 30 seconds for the 50m freestyle for the first time. 12 year old Jack Woodcock continued his consistent start to the season achieving four medals and four pb's; silver medals for the 200m IM and 100m Breaststroke gaining a 16 second pb the highlights.
14 year old Sophie Holdsworth and 12 year old Darcy Hambly both achieved Silver medals for the 200m backstroke and Bronzes for the 100m Breaststroke and 200m IM in their respective age groups. 11 year old Megan Batterbee took a Silver medal in the 200m backstroke in a time of 2:57.88 and 12 year old Melissa Machin swam to Bronze in the 50m freestyle gaining a Yorkshire qualifying time in the process.
Regional A Squad
The Regional A squad had 21 swimmers competing in the club champs. The boys competing were James Rodmell, Daniel Brown, Aaron Arksey 18, Karmand Abbas Kareem 16, Joe Morris 15, Ben Annis 14, Kaso Abbas Kareem 13, and Ben Chapman 12. With most of the swimmers competing in the previous weeks York Regional meet, personal best times were possibly going to be hard to come by. James Rodmell showed he has still got what it takes, securing Gold in the 100m breaststroke and 50m frontcrawl.
In the boys 14 year and over 100m breaststroke it was a 1 2 3 for the squad, James was first, Danny Brown second and Joe Morris in Bronze medal place. In the boys 200 backstroke medals and pb's were in order for Ben Chapman 2nd in the 12/13 year old age group. Joe secured Silver in the 14 and over age group with Karmand 3rd. . In the boys 200m IM it was Gold for Joe Morris, Silver for Danny Brown and Bronze for Kaso Abbas Kareem.
In the last race of the championship for the squad was the boys 50 free, pb's come from Ben Chapman and Ben Annis, 2nd and also from Kaso Abbas Kareem. In the 14y / over Danny was 3rd Aaron Arksey a close second to James Rodmell who took Gold.
In the first race for the girls was the 200m IM, pb's came from Natasha Clark age 12 in the 100m breast, Amy Greenacre 12, Sarah Barlow 15 and Natalie Moon 17 in the 100m breaststroke. In the girls other races the 100m breaststroke, 200 backstroke and 50m frontcrawl pb's just kept coming, Alex Millington 100m breast, 200m back and 50m free, Sarah Barlow 100m breast 200m back and 50m free, Amy Greenacre 100m breast 200m back, Eleanor Johnstone 100m breast and 50m free.
3 swimmers from Nationals took part in the final club champs of the year. National squad swimmer Shannon McGahey age 13 took 3 Gold medals and 1 Silver, all her times were personal bests and improved her qualifying times for the NER. In the 200m IM 1st place with a 2 second PB of 2.30.22, 1st in 200m back with a 2 second PB 2.31.14, 1ST in 50m free which was an exciting heat with all the National swimmers in the same heat with a PB of 29.80 and finally Silver in 100m breast with a 3 second PB in a time of 1.28.53.
In the 14 and over age group - Dervla Curran age 15 took Gold in the 200m IM in a time of 2.27.31, Lauren Hall 2nd with 2.29.22. Gold again for Dervla in the 50m free with a time of 28.02, Lauren Hall 2nd 29.22 and finally the 100m breast Dervla snatched Gold again in a time of 121.20 and Lauren Hall 2nd with 1.21.99.
