Winter Yorkshire Championships

The Yorkshire Championships at Sheffield proved to be tough gala for Kingston upon Hull swimming club, but the swimmers stood up well to the challenge so early into the season.
In the Age 13 Girls, Shannon McGahey swam a pb in her 100 back with 1.12.86, another pb in the 100 Fly with 1.10.94, a 3 second pb in the 200 IM with 2.32.50 finishing 8th overall and finally securing another pb in the 100 free in a time of 102.48 finishing 9th overall. All times obtained improved her North Eastern Regional times for December at Sunderland.
In the Age 14 year group, Emily Bailey swimming on her 14th birthday obtained a pb on her 100 Fly in a time of 113.01. In the 100 back a pb in a time of 1.09.78 finishing 8th overall. In the 200 IM a pb in a time of 2.37.14 Jessica Chapman swam a 5 second pb in the 100 breast in a time of 121.89 and another pb in the 200 IM 2.39.27 a 2 second improvement
In the Age 17 group Leah Altoft took Yorkshire gold in the 100 back in a pb time of 1.03.99. In the Age 14 boys group - William Maddrell swam 4 second pb in the 200 IM.
Junior 'A' Squad
13 year old Bailey Hairsine continued his impressive form which saw him reach four Yorkshire finals and gain four North East Region qualifying times. In his 100m backstroke he swam to fourth place, just missing out on a medal in a time of 1:08.36. He then went on to take a fifth place finish in the 200m IM and sixth place for both the 100m butterfly and 100m breaststroke. Not to be out done by the boys, 11 year old Aleah Ross reached two finals and managed to swim three NER qualifying times to boot. She achieved a seventh place finish in both the 100m freestyle and 100m breaststroke and gained a further NER time for her 100m backstroke in a time of 1:19.40.
12 year old Jack Woodcock followed up a six second improvement on his 200m IM pb only the week before by gaining a further five second reduction. He then went on to swim a 5 second pb on his 100m freestyle in a time of 1:05.65. 13 year old Hannah Willingham had a successful day, walking away with personal bests in all of her four races, an impressive 4 seconds off the 100m breaststroke being the highlight. 11 year old Megan Batterbee also managed a clean sweep of personal bests, achieving a 4 second improvement on her 100m freestyle. Solid personal best performances from 12 year olds Melissa Machin and Darcy Hambly rounded off a successful weekend for all.
Junior 'B' Squad
The swimmers from the clubs Junior B who had managed to gain the qualifying times for the winter Yorkshires produce some good swims. 11 year old Lewis Collins had a great gala swimming in the 200 IM and managed to hit the 12 year old Yorkshire time for next year's gala. In the 100 breast Lewis swam a 3 second PB narrowly missing the NER time by 0.5 seconds but securing a very respectable 11th place. It was a 2 second PB in the 100 free which gained him 12th place this year, Yorkshire time and his NER time. Lewis's top finish came in the 100 back where he got his clean sweep of Yorkshire times. Lewis gained another NER time and finished 12th claiming a much sought after champions cap. 11 year old Jake Conlon had a great weekend as he swam his way to a 4 second pb in the 200 IM finishing in a time of 3.09.40 and knocked 6 seconds off in the 100 breast to finish in a time of 1.37.11. For the girls 11 year old Maddie Tait put a great swim in on the 100 back knocking 5 seconds off and qualifying for next year's Yorkshires.
10 year Hollie Verity managed pb's in all her races. Hollie swam in the 100 free knocking off 1 second. In the 200 IM it was a 3 second PB and in the 100 breast Hollie swam her way to a 5 second PB. Hollie knocked 4 seconds off in the 100 back to finish in 1.27.14 earning her a very respectable 14th place. 10 year old Jolie Bull swam in the 100 back and the 200 IM. Jolie's best swim came in the 100 free where a solid swim saw her knock 4 seconds off her time. Luke Taylor swam in the 100 back and gained a new pb time of 1.22.83, Luke also swam in the 100 free and gained another new pb time of 1.12.
A slightly smaller group of swimmers competed from Kingston upon Hulls Regional swimming squad due to illness, but the swimmers that competed did not disappoint. Competing were James Rodmell, Aaron Arksey 18, Kaso Kareem 12, Ben Chapman 12, Zoe Webster 15, Cesenna Wild 13, and Leoni Bull 12. Competing in a strong field of swimmers, senior swimmer James Rodmell who has been competing for 17 consecutive years equalled his personal best in the 100 free and 100 butterfly. Aaron also swimming the 100 free equalled his best time. Competing in his first Yorkshire championship, hitting the highs and lows, Kaso managed a 4 second improvement in the 100 breaststroke. Ben swimming in the 100 backstroke also managed a 4 second pb and securing a NER time as well.
Pb's were all in order in the girls swims with all the girls swam improved times in the 100 free with inform Zoe Webster producing a 1 second pb and gaining experience from the meet. Up and coming girls Cesenna Wild and Leoni Bull produced small improvements in their swims.
