Kingston upon Hull swimmers returned home after a successful showing at the British Gas ASANER BAGCAT Championships held at Ponds Forge Sheffield on the 5th/6th and 12th/13th June. The club had 59 representatives in finals and went on to achieve a medal haul to include 5 Gold, 7 Silver and 5 Bronze.

10 further National Qualifying times were achieved by 6 swimmers. Grace Dennis 100 and 800 metres Freestyle, 200 and 100 metres Butterfly. Eleanor Thompson 100 metres Backstroke. Amy Beadle 800 metres Freestyle. Daniel Stone 200 metres Backstroke. Hannah Falkinder 200 metres Backstroke. Shannon McGahey 800 and 1500 metres Freestyle.

Day 1

Day 1 saw Hannah Falkinder finish 2nd in the Girls 11 years 200 metres Backstroke (1:16.44). Grace Dennis touched just ahead of team mate Eleanor Thomson to take 3rd in the 13 years age group (1:09.51). Eleanor however did achieve her first ever National qualifying time (1:10.28). Jan Tomasz touched home in 3rd place in the Boys 14 years 100 metres Breaststroke (1:17.66). Grace Dennis then finished the days medal haul claiming 1st place in the Girls 13 years 200 metres Freestyle (2:09.04).

Day 2

Day 2 continued from where day 1 finished. In the longer distance events Kingston swimmers showed their class. Shannon McGahey picked up the silver medal in the Girls 11 year 800 metres Freestyle (10:26.18) achieving her first National time of the championships. In the same event Amy Beadle achieved her first ever National time finishing 4th (9:59.54). Grace Dennis claimed the silver medal in the 13 years age group achieving her second National time of the championships (9:17.47).

Times posted by the Girls 4 x 100 (4:14.02) and 4 x 200 metres (9:06.08) Freestyle Team saw the Kingston upon Hull team finish first and claim both titles. Excellent swims from Amy Felgate, Grace Dennis, Amy Beadle and Roisin Kelly saw them hold off the strong challenges from City of Leeds and Sheffield Swim Teams.

After her earlier success in the 800 metres Freestyle, Shannon McGahey continued her good form to claim the silver medal in the Girls 11 years 200 metre Butterfly. This was promptly followed by Grace Dennis claiming the Bronze medal and her 3rd National time of the meet (2:31.10) in the 13 year age group.

Day 3

Day 3 the first podium position of the day was the Girls 4 x 100 metres Medley Relay Team. Roisin Kelly (Backstroke), Eleanor Thomson (Breaststroke), Grace Dennis (Butterfly) and Amy Felgate (Freestyle) fought hard and took the Bronze medal (4:49.19). Daniel Stone achieved his first ever National time in the Boys 11 years 200 metres Backstroke (2:42.90) a fantastic swim saw Danny push himself to the limit.

Grace Dennis then produced an excellent swim to take the Silver medal in the Girls 13 years 400 metres Freestyle (4:29.92). Oche Igoche claimed the first medal position for Kingstons boys. In the Boys 13 years 100 metres Freestyle Oche Igoche took the Bronze medal with a powerful swim and touched home in less than a minute, a time of 59.92 seconds. Grace Dennis continued her heavy workload to claim another National time on the 100 metres Butterfly (1:08.94) unfortunately this was not enough to claim yet another podium position.

Day 4

Day 4 began with the longest distance event of the championships. Competing in the Girls 1500 metres Freestyle Shannon McGahey powered her way to claim her second National time of the championships and take the Gold medal (19:45.84). Not to be out done by her team mate Oche Igoche, Grace Dennis also broke the minute barrier in the Girls 13 years 100 metres Freestyle to take 1st place in a time of 59.96 seconds. This Graces fourth National time of the championships.

In her final event Grace claimed the silver medal in the Girls 13 years 200 metres Backstroke (2:24.75). In the same event Hannah Falkinder achieved her first National time of the championships in the 11 year age group (2:40.95). Jan Tomasz claimed Kingstons final podium position of the championships. Jan touched home in second place in the Boys 14 years 200 metres Breaststroke to take Silver (2:41.66).

Congratulations to Dervla Curran, Cameron Hulme, Emily Bailey, Roisin Kelly, Amy Felgate, Bailey Hairsine, William Dennis, Rhys Dodds, Jace Cappleman, Yasmin Brown, Eva Kirkwood and Nathan Greenwood who also competed at the championships, achieving a number of personal best times and final positions.
